On 22nd December (Friday) first Beatboxing battle in Bangladesh took place at Midas Center, Dhanmondi. The event called Battle Box BD’17 was organized by Beat Box Bangladesh. A total number of 16 young beat boxers participated in the competition. Finally, the trophy went to Rafteknix aka Rafiun Nabi Rafi. New York based beatboxer Amit Bhowmick was one of the judges of the event along with ABD and Jasper. Amit also conducted a free workshop on beatboxing on 21st December at the same venue.
Beatboxing is something that started in the hip-hop scene in the mid-80s, though the use of vocal percussion existed for centuries. But Bangladesh had a small beatboxing scene since 2010 onwards but everything started picking up the last 4/5 years.
Talking about the beatboxing scenario Moktadir Dewan aka Beatbaksho, one of the organizers of the event told us, “when there is a new concept, people tend to make it into their own and not understand how to go on with it, especially when presented in front of others who are oblivious to it but a very handful of beat boxers actually dug through and discovered more about beatboxing.”
“Even though Beatbox Bangladesh existed for around 3 years now, through the preparation of Battle Box BD 2017 and all, the world of beatboxing started to take notice”, he added.
The selection process started around February 2017, but mostly through the Beatbox Bangladesh page. The whole thing went online including searching for proper beatboxers. The last call was made around October this year and around 50 beatboxers were found. Finally, after a few steps of selection process 20 beatboxers were trained for few months since most of them lacked stage experience.
The event kicked off with an incredible hosting done by Beatbaksho and fellow beatboxer HanX, followed by an exciting battle between Rafteknix and Azmania. Sean Shizzy, BBKing, SnareByt, Time, Beat Fizz, Sajid, Traferd, Zahin7, Berzerk, RT2D, Sykoverse, Soaker, Carnage, Eklektic। participated at the event, among others. Rafteknix faced Berzerk in the final. Carnage won the third place.
The entire show was also praised by such international groups like Beatbox Australia, Beatbox Newzealand and so much more. International beatboxers also have posted their reactions about this event through several video blogs.
Amit mesmerized the audience with his maestro of beatboxing. It was a new experience for Dhaka audience. Moktadir Dewan aka Beatbox also performed at the event. ABD, VXL, Beat Fizz added joy to the event through their performances.
