The music world has finally said goodbye to the Southern rock pioneer – Gregg Allman yesterday (June-03, 2017) afternoon. His body was laid to rest at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia beside his brother and co-founder of Allman Brothers Band – Duane Allman who died in a fatal motorbike accident in 1971, and band mate Berry Oakley.
Many of Gregg’s friends and family members have attended the private ceremony at Snow’s Memorial Chapel. Former president of the US – Jimmy Carter, who is a great fan of the band and who has been assisted by them during his 1976 presidential campaign, has brought along his wife Rosalynn. Carter, 92, has given Allman great credit for drumming up crucial support that helped put him in the White House.
“Gregg Allman was there when I needed him, and Rosalynn and I have always been grateful to him.”
The two men formed a friendship, and Carter was on hand to present Allman with an honorary doctorate from Mercer University in 2016.
Also attended the ceremony were Peter Frampton, ex-wife of the late singer – Cher and many of Allman’s bandmates like Jaimoe, Dickey Betts and Derek Trucks. Allman’s children Devon, Layla and Delilah Island, his niece (and Duane’s daughter) Galadrielle, his lifelong friend Chank Middleton and his manager Michael Lehmen delivered eulogies at the service.

Hundreds of fans then gathered and marched towards the cemetery where the legend has been laid to his final resting place. As per request from the Allman’s estate – no one has worn any suits during the funeral, instead they wore jeans. Many of them were wearing the Allman Brothers t-shirts while listening to the bands song in the stereos.
While the burial was also private, hundreds of fans gathered on a hill overlooking Allman’s grave while the rocker was taken to his final resting place.
Gregg Allman died on May 27th at the age of 69 at his home near Savannah, Georgia following a battle with liver cancer.
In an interview, manager Michael Lehman said that the singer spent his final night listening to tracks off his upcoming solo LP Southern Blood, which would release in September.
