Notable Bangladeshi singer of the yesteryears Farida Yasmin, who won the hearts of people with her melodious voice in the 60s, has passed away due to complications of old age. She was 74.
She breathed her last at the capital’s BIRDEM Hospital on the evening of Saturday August-08, 2015 at 6 pm. According to her eldest son Qazi Shahnoor Hossain, she was admitted to the hospital for the past 18 days until her death.
Her niece Yasmeen Fairooz, who is the daughter of the famous playback singer Sabina Yasmeen said that she was in a comatose state and she was going on a dialysis due to her damaged kidneys. She also had thalassaemia and recently had a cardiac arrest.
Mrs. Yasmin was the wife of the famous writer, creator of the legendary character “Masud Rana”, and founder of the leading publication house Sheba Prokashoni, Qazi Anwar Husain, She was also the eldest of the legendary five “Yasmin Sisters”. They are Farida, Fauzia, Najma, Nilufar and Sabina respectively. Among them, Nilufar Yasmin has died on 2003.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Whip of the parliament ASM Feroz among others has expressed deep shock at the death of the famous singer. Her body has been brought back to her home on Sunday. She was later buried at the Banani Graveyard after the funeral prayers.
