The music world has yet again been shocked by the death of another gigantic figure of Rock N Roll. Malcolm Young – the rhythm guitarist and co-founder of the famous Aussie Rock N Roll act AC/DC, died at Lulworth House in Elizabeth Bay, Australia after a long battle with dementia. He was 64.
The announcement of his death was posted at the band’s official site(s) in two separate messages, with the second one contain a small writing by lead guitarist and brother – Angus Young at the end.
The news has spread like wildfire as fans, friends and fellow musicians started to pay their respect and love to the late rockstar.
“Malcolm Young was one of the best ever rhythm guitarists in Rock n Roll. He was a fantastic songwriter and he had a great work ethic too. I toured with AC/DC on their ‘Stiff Upper Lip’ tour. I found Malcolm to be a really cool, down to earth fellow. The entire rock n roll community is heartbroken by his passing.” – Slash (GNR)
“It is a sad day in rock and roll. Malcolm Young was my friend and the heart and soul of AC/DC. I had some of the best times of my life with him on our 1984 European tour. He will be missed and my deepest condolences to his family, bandmates and friends.” – Eddie Van Halen
Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine also tweeted the following message.
“I have to go…I am losing it that Malcolm is gone. I hate this…”
Born on January 06, 1953 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK; Malcolm Mitchell Young moved to Australia along with fifteen of his family members to avoid the The Big Freeze of 1963 which include his siblings – Angus and George Young. Soon, he earned the reputation as a schoolyard brawler. After leaving school he started working as a mechanical engineer in a bra factory.
He founded AC/DC when he was 20 years old, with his brother Angus on lead guitar and him on the rhythm guitar and has released some of the famous albums of the history.
In April 2014, Young became seriously ill and was unable to continue performing. On 16 April 2014, AC/DC released a note stating that Young would be “taking a break from the band due to ill health”. In July, Johnson revealed that Young was in hospital receiving treatment for an unspecified condition and during May recording sessions had been replaced in the studio by guitarist Stevie Young, his nephew.
